Architecture and Atmosphere (edited by P. Tidwell, Tapio Wirkkala-Rut Bryk Foundation, Espoo 2014).
Following to the second seminar of the forthcoming centennial celebrations of artists Tapio Wirkkala and Rut Bryk – organized by Tapio Wirkkala-Rut Bryk Foundation and Alvar Aalto Academy –, the Wirkkala-Bryk Foundation has just published the conference proceedings Architecture and Atmosphere (edited by P. Tidwell), with contributions from Gernot Boehme, Tonino Griffero, Jean-Paul Thibaud, and Juhani Pallasmaa.
The seminar was led beginning with some main questions: How is the atmosphere of a space created? How do architecture and design contribute to the atmosphere? And, as Esa Laaksonen (director of the Alvar Aalto Academy) said: When designing a building, how can one create an atmosphere that is homely and safe?
